As I sat to write for Day 4 of the WriteTribe challenge post midnight (Theme: Music), I wondered if I should talk about my favourite song, favourite music or favourite instrument. As I sat in silence, thinking what to write about, I heard the lovely sounds that are so typical of our place at this time of the day (night). Music is everywhere, isn't it! But generally, we only notice it when we are on our headphones or watching latest songs.
So our house is located across the banks of Gadhi river in Panvel. There is a railway line across the river and then, a bit farther, there are a lot many trees and then we can see Karnala bird sanctuary
(so there are quite some birds in this area). While we bought this house for the serene view, we were surprised to have a musical performance in the lap of nature.
At this time of night, there is a mild sound of a goods train as it passes through the woods, whistling on its way and the mild echo which I guess is contributed by the surrounding hills, creates a lovely background score. To add to the music, a trucker passing through the Pune expressway, not far from here, just honked in a rather musical manner. As the train moves away, the music goes down, and within a few minutes, there's some bird adding to the melody, momentarily. I ever heard a bird at this hour, may be I am imagining... may be until today, I never took the time to pay attention to the audio beauty of nature! The music everything around is creating here is giving the kind of peace you get through meditation. I guess I must spend ten minutes listening to this everyday.
And the mornings here are peppier. Sparrows, parrots and mynahs sing together while a pair of squirrels add a louder voice to it all. And then, a milk vendor rings the bell on his bicycle everyday, at the same time, in a same tune. It's music all around until I switch on the television and listen to the planned and systematically composed music which is entertaining for sure, but not as peaceful as what nature has gifted us, for free!

ReplyDeleteThank you Aditi. Yeah, we were lucky to find a house at such a place. We had to move a bit away from the main suburbs but totally worth it. Now I feel line watching August Rush.

ReplyDeleteOh yeah, mimicking a cuckoo is so much fun. I always struggle to spot one though, it's amazing they hide in the leaves.

DeleteWow! You live at such a fab place. This took me back in time. I remember a resort in the hills where we stayed, a small railway line close by and sounds of nature... simply bliss and beautiful.

ReplyDeleteYou are so right. Ever since we moved here, an year ago, two residential complexes have already come up obstructing the view a bit. I am indulging in the beauty around until all we see is concrete jungle.

DeleteWhile its true that the concrete jungle is slowly finding its way to us, Im still lucky in some ways to have enough of nature's music around me - sparrows every morning, sound of crickets at night, coconut trees swaying in the wind and of course, my dogs running around trying to get my attention. :)
